Where’s my Google Drive file?

Having trouble finding something in Google Drive? Here are a few things to note and to try:

If you are having trouble finding a new document (or spreadsheet, or slide, etc.) try looking under the “Recent” list. Sometimes it takes Google Drive a little bit to update its file listing, so if you hit “Recent” you can goose it into doing so. This usually happens when a user creates a new document and closes it rather quickly, so Google has a chance to save it, but not necessarily a chance to refresh the file listing.

Having trouble finding something share with you? Try clicking on the “Shared with me” option. This will list everything shared with you and it will give you an opportunity to add these to your own drive, so then you can organize them AND so that you will always see the latest version of the shared resource.

Still having trouble finding something? Try the search box! It’ll look through everything… and it will also allow you to search through your trash if appropriate. Options are diagrammed below:
