Aspen Mentor/Mentees Program

Aspen has a great deal of functionality and complexity, so it’s important that new staff learn from trained staff about their position’s core Aspen responsibilities.

For Chelsea High teachers, the primary (need on day 1) Aspen needs include:

  • Setting up gradebook including average mode (total point, categories, etc.), entering assignments, categories, grades, extra credit, and 40 point floor codes if applicable.
  • Using the information in the Aspen “Pages” area, including resource documents, banner messages, and various widget functionality.
  • Taking class attendance, including understanding codes and comments, seating charts, etc.
  • Accessing specific student information through alerts, special education, attendance in other classes, etc.
  • Accessing your information including: attendance, ID numbers, schedule, etc.

For Chelsea High teachers, the secondary (need by end of month 1) Aspen needs include:

  • Completing the conduct referral workflow.
  • Using simple queries to pull subsets of information and pulling csv files into Google Sheets or other spreadsheet programs.
  • Posting Progress Reports, Term Grades, and Final grades, including understanding the difference between post columns and gradebook columns.
  • Using Google Classroom integration if applicable.

Mentors should sit down with Mentees to help set up all primary needs before the first day of classes and should schedule later meetings to go over secondary needs during the first month of school.
